Frequently asked questions

What is your availability?

I offer in-person and virtual sessions between 9 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

Both! We can talk about what you’re ideal schedule would be during our consultation call.

My virtual sessions are held online using Sessions Health, my HIPAA compliant medical record program, and my in-person sessions are held at one of my two office spaces in Raleigh.

How long are sessions?

Individual sessions are about 50 minutes to 1 hour; couples sessions about 90 minutes. How often we meet is ultimately up to you and/or your insurance coverage. This is something I can help you decide based on your schedule, budget, and the urgency of your situation.

What insurances do you take?

I am in network with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna/Evernoth, and Optum/UnitedHealthcare. If I am out of network with your plan, I am happy to provide you with a superbill if you are hoping to file a claim with your insurance.

Do you take Medicare?

Unfortunately, at this time, I do not take Medicare.

What forms of payment are accepted?

All varieties of credit and debit cards are accepted. Payment is completed through a HIPAA-compliant (private and secure) service within my electronic medical record program, Sessions Health.

What happens after I message you?

The first step is scheduling a free, 15-minute, no-obligation consultation call. On this call you’ll tell me a bit about why you’re seeking therapy, I’ll tell you a little about myself and approach, and will happily answer any questions you have. If you’re planning on using your insurance, I will also gather the necessary information to verify your benefits. At the end of the consultation call, *if* you feel ready, we can schedule your first appointment. You can also schedule at a later time, or not at all. There is no pressure to schedule nor will I attempt to offer you a “sales pitch.”

Are my sessions still private if they are online?

They sure are. I conduct virtual sessions in totally private rooms with 4 walls and a door that closes with sound machines on the outside of it, the same way I do for my in-person sessions. My medical record program, Sessions Health, has video chat that is HIPAA-compliant.

What is an assessment and do I have to have one?

You might hear this first session called an “assessment,” but that word can be a little misleading. What this will really feel like—for you—is just a conversation. It’s our first chance to get to know each other, and my focus will be on understanding what’s bringing you in and what your life looks like emotionally, cognitively, socially, physically, and spiritually. All of those areas can shape our wellbeing, and I want to hear your story in your own words.

To do that, I’ll ask questions here and there, but mostly, I’ll be listening. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to talk about. You’re also welcome to ask me questions at any point—this time is just as much about you getting a feel for whether I’m the right fit for you, too.

By the end of our 90 minutes together, I’ll be able to talk with you about what some possible next steps could look like. That might mean continuing to meet with me for therapy, or it could mean thinking together about whether another provider or type of support might be a better fit. Either way, by the end of this session, the “assessment” part will be done—and from your side, it’ll likely just feel like a meaningful first session.
